  14 New Open Source project called Secure Internet Live Conferencing (SILC)
  15 has been started.  Initial development version of the software is
  16 available for testing.
  17 <p>
  18 SILC (Secure Internet Live Conferencing) is a protocol which provides
  19 secure conferencing services in the Internet over insecure channel.
  20 SILC is IRC like software although internally they are very different.
  21 Biggest similiarity between SILC and IRC is that they both provide
  22 conferencing services and that SILC has almost same commands as IRC.
  23 Other
  24 than that they are nothing alike.  Biggest differences are that SILC is
  25 secure what IRC is not in any way.  The network model is also entirely
  26 different compared to IRC.
  27 <p>
  28 SILC is an open source (or freeware) project and it has been released
  29 under the GNU General Public Licence.  The SILC is free to use and
  30 everyone
  31 is free to distribute and change the SILC under the terms of the GNU GPL.
  32 While there is no guarantee for the product SILC has been tried make
  33 as secure as possible.  Developers are needed and everyone is free to
  34 contribute their time, skills and ideas for the project.
